If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. It seems that the opposition to such issues are from members that either can't find the time to attend functions or at the very least purchase tickets to said events. If you don't want to be a Core Member with it's responsibilities step up and become a Benefactor. This should be a non-issue!

Option 2 We cannot afford to lose a Core Members over this. Raise the Associate Member dues to $50.00. Let's get on with something constructive.
