In Symone Fisher
Ahoy Krewe, I spoke to Symone this afternoon about her situation. Her illness has been very debilitating and has affected her ability to work a full-time job. Prior to her illness she had a successful career, was going to college majoring in Criminal Justice and owned a condo. She has lost everything because of this and continues to struggle with her health and is in constant pain. In 2018, she started with Door Dash and began to earn good money delivering on a bicycle. It helped her to pay for her medications and she was on the path to getting back on her feet. In 2019 she started with Uber Eats and really likes working with them. Then the pandemic hit, which obviously affected her ability to earn an income and was on unemployment assistance for a while which has since run out. She is receiving food stamps. Currently she is unable to work because her scooter is having mechanical problems. She is asking for assistance to get a rental car through the Uber Eats program. She tried doing this on her own until she was told a deposit was required, which she didn’t have enough money for. She earns about $200/day with Uber Eats and if she can start working again she can continue the ongoing rental on her own after the first week. The $200 deposit that is required does get refunded after one week. I’ve asked her to check with Uber Eats if the deposit can be reapplied to another week. She has been living in hotels for the past few years because she couldn’t qualify for an apartment due to her low credit score. She has worked to improve it and has other charity resources to help her with the first month rental and deposit. However, the apartment complex needs to see her 2022 tax filing in order to approve her. She just got her 1099 today and is filing her taxes tonight so she can submit the required documents to the apartment complex. Currently, she is staying at the Red Roof In in St. Augustine which the Salvation Army funded for two nights and is up tomorrow. The Salvation Army is currently unable to provide additional assistance as they are awaiting funding. She said she has tried shelters and was told that they are full. She has a resource list and has been diligently calling looking for some funding to stay at the hotel or a shelter until she gets approved by the apartment complex. She is asking for assistance to pay her hotel room for two weeks. The following is a summary of the assistance needed: · $200 deposit and one week rental $260+ tax with Uber Eats · $1137.36 for hotel (2 weeks) · $100 for cell phone bill which is due on the 4th · $125 for storage unit which is due now · $100 for credit card payment (credit card is maxed out) Total: Approximately $1900 - $2000. In speaking with Symone, she is a hard worker and wants to be independent. She feels she will be able to earn even more with Uber Eats with a car vs. a scooter since she can now drive in rain and cold. She has no family or friends that can assist her. Her father who was helping her as needed passed away two years ago. She is in dire need through no fault of her own and I recommend that we support her.
